Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is the use of medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a ‘whole patient’ approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. Research shows that a combination of medication and therapy can successfully treat these disorders, and for some people struggling with addiction, MAT can help sustain recovery.
MAT services can help you choose a better life in your recovery.
Talking with your treatment or healthcare provider about Medication Assisted Treatment can feel overwhelming, but it’s important to understand how medication can support your recovery.
MAT: Frequently Asked Questions
How can medication help support my recovery?
Medication works by stabilizing brain chemistry, reducing physical cravings, and easing withdrawal symptoms. This allows you to focus more fully on the behavioral therapies and lifestyle changes essential for long-term health.
What medications do you think is best for me?
The choice of medication is a collaborative process. Our MAT Supervisor and Nurse Practitioner will review your history and health goals to determine if FDA-approved options like Suboxone or Vivitrol are the right fit for your unique situation.
How long will I be on the medication?
There is no fixed timeline for recovery. MAT is tailored to each individual; some people use it for a short period during initial stabilization, while others may benefit from long-term maintenance to support a life of sobriety.
What are my treatment options?
We provide a comprehensive 'whole patient' approach. Your options include various FDA-approved medications paired with individual counseling, group therapy, behavioral support, and peer-led recovery networks.
Used correctly, medication can help you feel well enough to do the things you need to stay sober. It works best as part of a full recovery program that also includes counseling, healthy routines, and support.
